After Arakan lost its sovereignty on Saturday 31st. December 1784, an Arakanese resistance movement started. In 1815 A.D., Prince Hrwee Ban took the lead of this resistance movement. He was an intelligent leader of Arakan and a royalist. He studied English and Buddhism at Nalanda University in India. He declared: "Arakan is not part of Burma. Arakanese are not under Burmese colonial administration. Arakan dynasty totaling 225 kings had ruled Arakan for 5,689 years. Arakan is only Buddhist. So we don't want the Burmese Administration. Nan Da Pa Kyan, Mayor Maung San Pyaw, Burmese dictators, brought Arakanese captives to Upper Burma, including my father, and forced them to dig the long lake of Meiktila. Burmese have killed many Arakanese indigenous Mro, Khamwe, Dynet, Thet, Marma, Kaman in diverse ways. The Arakanese leaders are very angry with the activities of Burmese dictators. The Burmese Army is an intruder. So, we have to repulse Burmese as our historical duty. Besides, it is better to die than slave under colonialism."
